The Appointment
What Happens After You Pass This Assessment
After you successfully complete this assessment, the mine operator can appoint you as a Site Senior Executive (Restricted) for the specific small mine covered by the exemption under regulation 684 of the WHS Mines Regulations.
For most lower-risk small mines the Site Senior Executive (Restricted) will also be the mine operator.
Your First Steps After Appointment
If the mine does not already have an MSMS, you must establish one that meets regulations 621A and 622. If an MSMS already exists, review it to confirm it accurately reflects the mine's operations and hazards.
The LMS system will record the successful completion of the SMSPA. You may print a copy of the completion certificate for verification purposes.
Make sure the mine record required by regulations 675Y to 675ZA is in place and accessible. All relevant workers must understand how to record inspections, incidents, monitoring results and plant tests.
Before the first operational period, identify the controls at your mine where failure would cause the most serious harm. Set a schedule for checking they are working.
Hold a consultation session with all workers before operations start. Make sure they understand the hazards, the controls in the MSMS, their consultation rights, and how to raise safety concerns.
Upload the certificate into WorkSafe's Safety Regulation System (SRS) to verify your small mine is operating with an SSE (Restricted).
